Study in Canada
Colleges, language programmes and university studies, coordinated around designated institutions and a provincial framework that varies from one region to another.
How the system works
Federal rules, provincial differences
Canada combines a federal immigration framework with provincial education systems, and the province matters more than most applicants expect: the institutions, the fees, the language of instruction and the additional provincial requirements all differ.
Studies must take place at a designated institution, and the choice of that institution is part of the file rather than a detail settled afterwards. Colleges offer applied two-year programmes; universities offer degrees and postgraduate study; language schools operate on shorter cycles.
Quebec runs its own additional process, which changes both the documentation and the timeline.
Programmes
What can be coordinated
Availability, entry requirements and intake dates belong to each designated institution and are confirmed per programme.
- English and French language programmes
- College diplomas and applied certificates
- Technology and engineering technician programmes
- Business and administration programmes
- Health and community services programmes
- Trades and technical training
- University undergraduate degrees
- Postgraduate and graduate certificates
The file
Designated institution, then the study permit
Acceptance by a designated institution comes first; the study permit application follows. In Quebec, an additional provincial document is required before the federal application can be made.
We coordinate the preparation and the follow-up of that file with an authorised professional. Admission belongs to the institution and the permit decision exclusively to the competent Canadian authorities.
- A letter of acceptance from a designated institution
- The additional provincial document where the province requires one
- Language certification at the level the programme requires
- Evidence of funds as the procedure requires
- Medical examination where it applies
- Academic documents, translated and certified as required
A country appearing on this website does not mean that a job offer, a study place or an open intake exists. Every opportunity is subject to availability, requirements, selection, admission, contract and immigration authorization.
Arlen Global Mobility coordinates the preparation and follow-up of these processes. Legal services and other regulated activities are provided by duly authorised independent professionals or providers. The granting of visas, permits and authorisations depends exclusively on the competent authorities.
Questions
Studying in Canada — questions
Does the province I choose really matter?
Yes. The institutions available, the tuition, the language of instruction and any additional provincial requirements all depend on it, and Quebec has a separate step of its own. The choice belongs at the start of the process, not the end.
Can I work while studying in Canada?
Any entitlement depends on the conditions attached to the permit granted, on the institution and on the programme, and those rules change. It is confirmed for the individual case with an authorised professional, and we do not present study as a route into employment.
Is French necessary?
It depends on the province and the programme. Much of Canada studies in English, while Quebec and parts of other provinces study in French, and some programmes require certification in one or the other.
