International drivers for transport and logistics operators
Professional drivers screened on licence category, professional card, tachograph experience and the recognition their licence needs in the destination country.
The licence question
The licence decides the timeline
Driver recruitment across borders turns on one question that has nothing to do with the candidate's ability: whether their licence can be used, exchanged or must be obtained again in the destination country.
The answer depends on the issuing country, the destination, any exchange agreement between them and the vehicle category. It can be the difference between a driver working in weeks and a driver working in a year.
We check that first, before the profile is presented, and we tell the operator plainly which of the three situations applies.
What we verify
Verification points for a driving profile
Operators tell us the route type and the vehicle; we screen against that rather than against a generic driving licence.
- Licence categories held and their expiry dates
- Exchange or recognition route in the destination country
- Professional competence card where the destination requires one
- Digital tachograph card and driving-time regulation experience
- Dangerous goods, tank or oversize load certifications
- International route experience and border documentation habits
- Vehicle types actually driven: articulated, rigid, refrigerated, tanker
- Driving record and medical fitness certification
- Language level for dispatch, delivery and roadside checks
- Documentation status for the applicable immigration route
Retention
The first three months
Transport operators lose international drivers early, and rarely because of the driving. They leave over accommodation that was not what was described, a route pattern nobody explained, or paperwork nobody helped them with.
We treat the first months as part of the mandate: the conditions are confirmed in writing before travel, the arrival is planned, and the driver has a contact who can resolve a documentation question without going through dispatch.
Arlen Global Mobility coordinates the preparation and follow-up of these processes. Legal services and other regulated activities are provided by duly authorised independent professionals or providers. The granting of visas, permits and authorisations depends exclusively on the competent authorities.
Immigration approvals and work authorizations are determined by the competent authorities. Requirements vary according to the destination, nationality, profession and individual circumstances.
Questions
International drivers — questions
Can a non-EU driving licence be used in the European Union?
Only under the rules of the specific destination country and any exchange agreement with the issuing country, and the treatment of heavy vehicle categories is often stricter than for cars. This has to be checked per case before any commitment; where a new licence is required, the operator needs to plan for that period.
Do you recruit drivers for international or domestic routes?
Both, and the screening differs. International routes weigh border documentation, driving-time regulation and language; domestic distribution weighs delivery handling, urban driving and customer contact. The operator tells us which pattern the role has.
I am a professional driver. What should I send?
Your licence categories and expiry dates, your professional competence card if you hold one, the vehicle types and routes you have driven, any specialist certifications, and your current documentation situation. Registering a profile is not an application to a specific vacancy.
