Work in Latvia

A Baltic market where construction, metalwork and transport carry the demand, and where the size of the labour force makes qualified profiles hard to replace locally.

The market

A small labour market with specific gaps

Latvia's labour force is small, and that changes the character of its shortages: rather than broad demand across a sector, gaps appear in specific trades and specific certifications that the domestic market cannot cover.

Construction, metal fabrication, transport and logistics are where those gaps are most visible. Roles are often project-based, which makes the start date and the duration part of the specification from the beginning.

We operate in this market and keep a talent register for it. Profiles registered now are analysed against the sectors listed below; a position is only presented once the employer, the contract, the salary, the conditions and the immigration procedure are confirmed.

Sectors

Sectors that can be analysed

Appearing on this list means a profile can be studied for this market, not that a position is currently available.

  • Industrial maintenance
  • Road transport and professional driving
  • Warehousing and logistics operations
  • Woodworking and timber industry
  • Engineering and technical drawing
  • Hospitality in seasonal periods

Requirements

What the route generally requires

As an EU member state, Latvia distinguishes clearly between mobility within the Union and admission from third countries. The second is tied to an employer and to an authorization the employer must support.

The points below are general orientation. What applies in an individual case is confirmed by an authorised professional against the rules in force when the application is made.

  • Valid passport or EU identity document
  • Trade certificates and documented work history
  • A confirmed employment offer where the route requires one
  • Work authorization linked to the employer, for third-country nationals
  • The visa or residence permit determined by the Latvian authorities
  • Recognition of qualifications where the trade is regulated

A country appearing on this website does not mean that a job offer, a study place or an open intake exists. Every opportunity is subject to availability, requirements, selection, admission, contract and immigration authorization.

Arlen Global Mobility coordinates the preparation and follow-up of these processes. Legal services and other regulated activities are provided by duly authorised independent professionals or providers. The granting of visas, permits and authorisations depends exclusively on the competent authorities.

Questions

Working in Latvia — questions

Are there vacancies in Latvia at the moment?

Not published ones. We operate in this market through a talent register, which means we study projects and analyse profiles against them. We do not present a vacancy as active until the employer, the contract, the salary, the conditions and the immigration procedure have been confirmed.

Which language is used at work?

Latvian is the official language, and Russian and English are widely used in some sectors and companies. The requirement depends on the employer and on how safety-critical the communication in the role is.

Are project-based contracts common?

In construction and industrial work, yes. A fixed duration is not a disadvantage in itself, but it has to be stated in the contract before anyone travels, together with what happens at the end of the project.
