Work in Sweden

A high-wage economy with strong collective agreements, where admission for qualified professionals depends on meeting salary and conditions standards rather than on volume hiring.

The market

Conditions define eligibility

Sweden approaches labour migration through the terms of employment. The role has to be offered on conditions that match the applicable collective agreement or sector standard, and the salary has to be sufficient for the person to support themselves.

That makes it a market where a well-prepared file for a genuinely qualified professional has a clear path, and where an underpriced offer has none. Demand is strongest in engineering, technology, healthcare, construction and skilled industrial trades.

We operate in this market and keep a talent register for it. We register profiles and study projects, and we do not announce an intake before the employer, the contract and the procedure are confirmed.

Requirements

What the route generally requires

For regulated professions — healthcare above all — a licence or recognition from the competent Swedish authority is a precondition, not a formality to sort out after arrival. Planning a healthcare move without it is the most common way these processes fail.

The points below are general orientation. An authorised professional confirms what applies in an individual case against the rules in force at the time of the application.

  • Valid passport or EU identity document
  • A written offer on conditions matching the applicable collective agreement
  • A salary sufficient for self-support under the applicable rules
  • Qualification recognition for regulated professions
  • Documented experience and, where relevant, references
  • The permit determined by the Swedish authorities
  • English or Swedish at the level the role requires

A country appearing on this website does not mean that a job offer, a study place or an open intake exists. Every opportunity is subject to availability, requirements, selection, admission, contract and immigration authorization.

Arlen Global Mobility coordinates the preparation and follow-up of these processes. Legal services and other regulated activities are provided by duly authorised independent professionals or providers. The granting of visas, permits and authorisations depends exclusively on the competent authorities.

Questions

Working in Sweden — questions

Is Sweden open for recruitment through you now?

We operate in this market through a talent register. We register profiles and assess projects, and we will only announce an intake once an employer, a contract, a salary, the conditions and the immigration procedure are confirmed.

Can I work in healthcare with a foreign qualification?

Only with recognition from the competent Swedish authority, and the process has its own requirements, including language. It has to be started before the move is planned, and it is handled by the professional bodies rather than by an employer.

How important is Swedish language?

It varies sharply by sector. Technology and engineering roles frequently work in English; healthcare, education and public-facing roles generally require Swedish, often at a certified level. The employer and, for regulated professions, the authority set the requirement.
