Shipbuilding

Shipyard staffing for construction and repair projects

Trades, technicians and supervisors for shipbuilding and ship repair, coordinated around the project calendar rather than around a generic vacancy.

How yards actually hire

Staffing follows the project calendar

A yard rarely needs one trade in isolation. A block assembly phase needs welders, fitters and platers together; an outfitting phase needs pipefitters, electricians and insulation trades; a repair window needs everything at once, for a fixed number of weeks.

That makes timing part of the specification. A profile that arrives four weeks after the phase has closed has no value, however well it was screened.

We work backwards from the phase dates: which trades, how many, from which markets, and what each immigration route would need in order to have people on site when the phase opens.

Profiles

Trades and roles we source

Volumes, certifications and shift patterns are agreed per project phase, together with the date each group must be on site.

  • Ship fitters, platers and steel structure assemblers
  • Pipefitters and marine piping technicians
  • Marine electricians and instrumentation technicians
  • Blasters, painters and coating applicators
  • Insulation and outfitting trades
  • Riggers, crane operators and scaffolders
  • Quality control and non-destructive testing technicians
  • Foremen, supervisors and project coordinators
  • Marine engineers and naval architecture technicians

On site

Arrival is part of the staffing plan

A group arriving together needs more than flights. It needs accommodation confirmed, transport to the yard, site induction and safety training scheduled, documentation checked at the gate, and someone the workers can reach in their own language during the first weeks.

We coordinate those arrangements with the yard and with the employer, and we keep a single point of contact for the group so that problems reach us rather than the production line.

Arlen Global Mobility coordinates the preparation and follow-up of these processes. Legal services and other regulated activities are provided by duly authorised independent professionals or providers. The granting of visas, permits and authorisations depends exclusively on the competent authorities.

Immigration approvals and work authorizations are determined by the competent authorities. Requirements vary according to the destination, nationality, profession and individual circumstances.

Questions

Shipyard staffing — questions

Can you staff a repair window of only a few weeks?

It depends on the nationality of the workers and the route available. Short windows are realistic where no new work authorization is required; where one is, the lead time is set by the authorities and a few weeks is usually not enough. We say which of the two applies before the plan is built.

Do you supply complete teams or individual profiles?

Both. A phase-based plan usually needs groups of the same trade with a supervisor who shares their language, and we build the shortlist that way. Individual specialist roles are handled as single searches.

Which yards do you work with?

We do not publish client names. What we can share is the sector experience of the profiles we present and the markets where shipbuilding trades can currently be analysed, which appear on our destinations page with their status.

Next step

Staffing a shipbuilding phase?

Send the trades, the volumes and the phase dates. We reply with the markets that can supply them and what each route requires to meet the calendar.
